Journal

Europe Journal

We left LA on Thursday July 23 on the new Airbus 380 for British Air.  Upper deck and business class.  It is a great way to fly on a 10 hour flight.  It was a very smooth and nice flight.  We landed in London at 10am and were picked up by Des at Heathrow for the ride to the SevenOaks and the Thomas' house.  We spent all day in the rain trying to stay awake until bed time so as to rid ourselves of JetLag.  The kids all played together while Kirsty, Kami and I went for coffee in town.  We then went to dinner at the "Kings Head" pub where we piled into a "King Hut" in the back and had a great dinner. There was a great fuss when Hamish (16 but taller than me) ordered an ale!  Fun.

On Saturday we all drove to Cambridge in East Anglia (in two cars) and spent a warm day checking out that town and university.  It must be very fun to go there.  Back at the Thomas house we played soccer and basketball and sat outside in the evening and had a great dinner of chile and rice.

Sunday we slept in to a rainy day and are just now heading out for a hike in the local parkland, a large property owned by "Lord Sackville" (for 400 years).

We walked through to the estate but passed through a local battle memorial about a battle fought between the royalists and the Kent forces in the 1300s and then also walked through the SevenOaks school -- what a facility.

It was misting and raining and while the boys worked out at the gym at the school the 6 of us walked through the sackville estate (also called Knolle Park). The grounds are covered with dear and very beautiful.  Probably 1000+ acres. We walked through the manor (a castle really) and then walked on to the town of SevenOaks.  Their we had a fantastic Italian Lunch at Valentins (one of the best Italian meals I have had and one of the best Italian coffees as well).  After that we headed back to the Thomas residence where we lit a fire (cold July day!) played games and hung out before dinner.  Dinner was music, watching silly videos made during the day, and great food and drink.

Re: Golf

Some good some bad but I'm on the right track. I need to spend time with Jamie tomorrow but I'm ready to get going.
